Shimano HG vs Micro Spline vs SRAM XDR: Which 10PLUS Freehub Do You Need?
Your cassette decides the freehub, not your bike brand. Get it wrong and no amount of carbon will fix it.
The one rule to remember
Look at the cassette that's on your bike right now. Its standard decides which freehub body you need.
10PLUS offers Shimano HG, Shimano Micro Spline and SRAM XDR options across the road and gravel range — but the three aren't interchangeable.
Shimano HG
HG is Shimano's familiar Hyperglide standard, used on many of its road and gravel cassettes. If your current cassette is HG-compatible, choose HG.
Don't work out the freehub from the number of gears alone. Check the exact cassette model.
Shimano Micro Spline
Micro Spline belongs to Shimano's 12-speed MTB cassette families and uses a different spline pattern. An HG wheel won't take a Micro Spline cassette just because both are 12-speed.
If your cassette is Micro Spline, pick the Micro Spline option.
SRAM XDR
XDR is the interface for compatible SRAM cassettes. Again, the safest approach is to read the cassette spec rather than guess from the groupset name.
This matters most on bikes with a mixed drivetrain or an aftermarket cassette.
Before checkout
Write down your cassette model, freehub standard, axle spacing and rotor mount before you order. If you're still unsure, send the seller those exact details. A $300–500 wheelset isn't a bargain if the freehub is wrong.
